My equipment at the 1909 Mackin House was a Canon 7D Mark II full-frame camera fitted with a Canon 35mm f/1.4 L lens. I was photographing at around f/2.2, 2,000 ISO in manual mode, and the raw photographs were then edited in Adobe Lightroom. For an overview of Mackin House, read my blog from 2024.
The 2nd Annual 2026 Mackin House Museum Comic Book Sale, made possible by Coquitlam Heritage Society, was well attended—where the beauty of the 1909 craftsman-designed house framed the narrative-art publications well as attendees did some business and socialized.
Not only did I get a chance to photograph the event, purchase publications illustrated by industry luminaries, I also had the fun opportunity to mingle with friends in the hobby and one buddy goes as far back as 1997.

There are numerous reasons why people collect narrative art, or sequential art or comic books, for me it’s all about:
- The artists I admire and seeing their style expressed across various characters and stories throughout their career, and
- My biggest passion is about acquiring a nostalgic piece, where it’s related to my early days of collecting in my youth.
Thus, this event met both my conditions successfully. Overall, I think the attendees were satisfied with whatever reason brought them to the event. In fact numerous times I overheard, as a buyer was leaving, asking the seller if they will be selling again at such and such a show—sellers establish their loyal customers at shows such as this one.
We missed a couple of buddies who could not attend: Museum Manager Markus who, with Allan and I, conceptualized the idea of having this comic sale about 3 years ago; and a local collector/seller Ryan. There’s also Abbas in the UK who cannot attend of course. We are all on a What’s App group messaging and nerding about … you guessed it haha.
Moreover, the event was casual with no admission fee. If you’re local and have missed it in both years, hope to see you next year.
